Each spring, the Friends’ Used Book Sale, Silent Auction, and Café draw bibliophiles from near and far, raising ~$20,000 for the Friends to give to the library. From September to March, dedicated sorters sift through a steady flow of donated books and media. These materials are categorized, boxed, and saved until the third week of April, when they are moved to the local elementary school for our giant two-day sale.
Not only does this project rely on many round-the-calendar volunteers for sorting, scores more workers mobilize in the week of the event to prepare the gym, set out the books, bake and cook, and run the sale. During the year, the sorters also keep an eye out for unique or unusual books that are researched and earmarked for the Silent Auction, where shoppers have the chance to bid individually on them. Yet another crew makes and serves delicious food at the Friends’ Café & Bake Sale. The whole event would not be possible without the tremendous generosity of our community. Please celebrate Earth Day and join us to give new life to used books.
The sale takes place at Williamstown Elementary School on the Friday and Saturday of the public school April vacation week between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.
