Each spring, the Friends’ Used Book Sale, Silent Auction, and Café draw bibliophiles from near and far, raising ~$20,000 for the Friends to give to the library. The inventory comes from a steady flow of donated books and media that gets sorted, categorized, and boxed from September to March. In the third week of April, the boxes are moved to the Williamstown Elementary School for our giant two-day event.
This endeavor couldn’t happen without volunteers, lots of them! Some volunteers work for seven months to sort through donations as they roll in, scores more mobilize in the week of the sale to set up the Main Sale in the school gym, unpack the books, bake and cook, and run the sale. Along the way, sorters keep an eye out for unique or unusual books to be researched and set aside for the Silent Auction. Yet another crew makes or serves delicious baked goods and savory food for the Friends’ Café & Bake Sale. The whole event would not be possible without the tremendous generosity of our community and we embrace the spirit of Earth Day by finding new homes for used books.
The sale takes place on the Friday and Saturday following Patriots’ Day (in April) at Williamstown Elementary School.
